At around 6:30 p.m. on August 4, police responded to Fern Oak Circle to find residents of a downstairs unit with a bullet hole in their ceiling, according to the Stafford County Sheriff's Office.

Although no one was injured, officers went to the unit above and found Delontae Harris, 20, with his 2-year-old son, who had shot the gun, authorities said.

Law enforcement said the toddler gained access to a loaded Taurus 9mm handgun and shot it through the apartment below.

The gun was seized and Harris was charged with felony child endangerment and allowing access of a loaded firearm to a child, the police reported.

Delontae was held at the Rappahannock Regional Jail on a $2,500 bond and Child Protective Services gave the child to a responsible adult, officials said.
